And once again Colin Morgan...
Q&A с показа
)
(c) leviathans-moon.livejournal.com
It's a very Irish thing, when emotional things are going on you just lock it in, you keep going, and eventually it'll catch up with you. Often the most positive people are the ones that have the most secrets.
)
I liked the feeling of it.
Obviuously, my story wasn't dramatic enough.
Musical or ballet.
(Oh yeah!
Do something every night.
)

The sсript was phenomenally well-written, and that's what drew him to Parked. Colm Meaney joining as well just made it better. (His smile literally lit up his face when he mentioned Colm Meaney, here, as well.)
Doesn't know how they came up with the sсript, but it took a year to work on pre-production.
'Usually the drug addict is an incredibly negative force in a film, yet your character is incredibly positive and joyful.'- Colin said he thinks it's a very Irish thing, when emotional things are going on you just lock it in, you just go on, you keep going, and eventually it'll catch up with you.
Often the most positive people are the ones that have the most secrets (Strangely apt for Merlin, as well), and that's how it is with Cathal.
Fred and Cathal are the most unlikely of friends, coming from very different backgrounds, maybe there's a distraction, maybe there's a distraction for my character. Later on you see that he's not just a drug addict; he sees beauty in weird places. Maybe he sees Fred as his little project.
Research - Read a lot of biographies, stories of parents of kids that are addicted - showing the external and internal view of it. Went into drugs rehab centres. Learning genuinely how to shoot up. The guy that taught him was interesting because of the way he was reacting - he's been clean ten years but if he walks into a party where someone is doing drugs, he'll want it.
Most challenging part of the shoot - generally the weather was all over the place, but it slotted in quite well with filming; whenever the weather was really cold, things were going bad in the movie, and when things were picking up it was really sunny.
On Colm Meaney - he grew up with Irish movies, Snapper and The Commitments. He was very nervous about working with him, especially in such close proximity. Fortunately they'd both done their homework. They didn't rehearse a lot, and each scene only had one or two takes. And Colm had a nice greeting for him every morning - affectionate, but not suitable for all.
There was a lot of improvisation in the film. Before actually filming they would both just improvise what their characters would do, and a lot of it was kept in. Like the scene just after Fred has just done his handbrake turn round the corner, and the scene just after the guy that brings their dinner mentions getting the newspapers involved. He was happy to see that, because often it gets cut out.
Merlin film - He wishes he could tell us anything about the film. Found out on stage at the BFI with the same reaction as everyone else - 'Wha-?'
Filming the scenes with the drugs - no needle. Smoked for a month before the film, just herbal ones. Lots of camera tricks, lots of camera angles.
His next job - anything that gives him a similar reaction to what he had when he read the Parked sсript.
Drawing the line at preparation - he's seen too many things where actors are supposed to be smoking, but even he can tell they're a non-smoker sometimes, so he wanted to be able to do it convincingly. He didn't want to be coughing with his eyes streaming before a take. Also smoking gives you a certain attitude that he wanted to bring to Cathal. No danger of him getting hooked, he just 'liked the feeling of it'. But it's just a character thing. (Method as they come, I guess.)
Most challenging scene - when Cathal was being beaten up (the second time); they had to break the car windows and then drag him through. Glass everywhere, and it had to look realistic whilst still being safe.
(And then impromptu orchestral music began playing, and Colin just went with it - he sat up straighter and posed melodramatically, and it was all kinds of adorable. Colin said obviously his story wasn't dramatic enough.)
A lot of filming was pretty challenging. (jaunty spiccato from the violin. I was trying not to laugh, but...)
Moving on well trying to, he couldn't take anything seriously with the music in the background. The host said maybe he should dance, too, and Colin jokingly made to get up.
The easiest scenes were when Fred was driving Cathal around, and Cathal was just bored.
Next project - said he wanted to be in a musical(!) (Can't make out his real answer at all. Finally the music was turned off)
Asked to explain the challenges of filming Merlin - got to save your energy over the eight months. Over four series, got to hope that the writers give him something new to do with his character. A lot of things happen around Merlin, he's the epicentre. It's important to keep an eye on himself.
Getting out of character - he had something to do every night. His brother was in Dublin, so they went out and did something, rather than just going back to his hotel at night.
If he could play any character in the history of film - Paul Newman in The Hustler, or in Hud.
Favourite character that he's played - a very sure yes: Vernon Little in Vernon God Little. (I wish so much that I'd seen this. The book and sсript are amazing.) First professional job, first time in London, first everything. It was a scary and difficult time, but overcoming that gave him really fond memories of it.
Filming in a coffin (...IDEK) - pretty much slept through the filming. He didn't want to interrupt Colm Meaney during takes going (whispering with a thumbs up) "That was good!"

Colin Morgan The Great Cool,
